On an official State Visit to Ireland in 2008 the Czech President, Mr. Vaclav Klaus, took time out in a very hectic schedule to pay a flying visit to the English Market.
A vehement opponent of the Lisbon Treaty, President Klaus had created news by his attendance the previous night at an anti-treaty function in Dublin. So there were hordes of press in tow as the President and his wife walked the aisles of the Market and talked to traders.
The President greatly enjoyed the Market Tour as well as a quick cup of coffee in the Farmgate Café. Mrs. Klaus was presented with samples of the produce on display before the Official Party continued on their busy itinerary.
